Ah, 2004. A fine year in which we welcomed both Facebook and Foolish Words into the world. Here we are, less than a decade hence, and both have thrived and made their creators millions of dollars.
(I, uh, might be exaggerating a wee, little bit when I say Foolish Words has made it’s creators millions of dollars… but it is thriving.)
First created by Jessica McNew and continued by Ray Sikorski, Sam Louden and now me, the season of the fool is the only time of year that Bozeman area writers, amateur to professional, are allowed to write silly, frivolous things or work together in any way. This one, short season, culminating on April Fool’s Day, they are able to collaborate via e-mail and create an add-on story the likes of which you’ve not likely seen since middle school… or last year’s Foolish Words, as the case may be.
On the first of April, the fools emerge from their various work spaces around Gallatin and Paradise valleys and, eyes adjusting from bright computer screens to the dim light of the Montana evening, converge upon the Leaf and Bean in downtown Bozeman and read their 200 to 400 word contributions to a sea of grateful and adoring fans that spills out onto Main Street.
(There may have been some exaggeration in the last two paragraphs also.)
If you’d like to participate in the next Foolish Words please type your e-mail address into the box on the right side of the page and I will contact you. If you have questions or comments you can e-mail me at susan(at)creativenudge.org and if you’d like to see the results of past years’ Foolish Words just click on the “Past Years” menu option above.
Oh, and now you can “like” Foolish Words on Facebook!
Hope to see you on April 1st!
Susan Andrus
